Manual Carpet Sweepers

Posted in Product Reviews at 6:53 am by Donna

Don’t buy a manual carpet sweeper if you do not necessarily grasp the whole concept of “manual”…
<I say that lovingly>

Recently, it dawned on me that a manual carpet sweeper would keep me from having to lug the vacuum out every day.  My dogs apparently think that my floors should simulate the great outdoors regardless of my numerous talks with them that they need to shake off and wipe their feet before entering the house.  The girls have free roam between indoors and out because I leave the back sliding door open enough that they can get through so they’re in and out all day and it just gets crazy in here!

So, I went searching for a manual carpet sweeper.  I always go to Amazon first and I wasn’t disappointed as they had several to choose from.  I read all of the product reviews and selected the Bissell 2680B Perfect Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper for $30 even though I read in the customer reviews that the handle falls apart and that it doesn’t pick up everything.

After much debate about which one to buy and taking into consideration the good reviews verses the bad, I bought one.  A few days later it arrived and I put it together AFTER reading the directions.  I really wanted to find out if Bissel really let a design flaw like the handle falling apart slip through.  I know that sort of thing happens but that’s a real easy thing to fix in manufacturing…

In the directions it clearly stated that you need to put the handle together and then place something on the floor to protect it and hammer the handle a few times to set the handle permanently!  I wonder if the people who purchased one figured that this simple thing can be put together without reading the directions…
<we don’t need no stinkin’ directions> but if they did they would have solved their major beef with the product.  Again…

Then I’m reading reviews like “it doesn’t pick up everything” and the like.  I understand that in this day and age where everything happens at a flip of a switch or a press of a button that this is a drag, but manual means manual.  That’s a bummer until you think about how our grandparents and parents went through, huh?  <Uphill both ways!  Without any shoes!  In the snow!>

It’s  for the Bissell 2680B Perfect Sweep Dual Brush Sweeper!  I used it every day and I love it!!  I take it outside to empty it though because it’s a little awkward and stuff winds up everywhere.  I vacuum regularly too but Sierra’s tail picks up half of the backyard and then she shakes it off by telling me that she’s happy, which is several times a day and Sheba, our Yorkie-Poo, likes to roll around in the moss and then come inside and shake if off!  <Oh!  Good times!!>

So, in wrapping up, I answer the follow questions:
No, a manual sweeper doesn’t pick up everything because it’s not meant to replace your vacuum!
Yes, the faster you push it, the more it picks up!  Think of it as a cardio work-out!
AND…Yes, even the directions for something that seems so simple to assemble should be read!
