Dave Matthews On CBS & NBC This Week!!
![]()
Dave Matthews will be on CBS Sunday Morning today (May 31) and NBC Today on Friday (6/5)!
I could not believe what I was reading this morning…
that the band almost broke up before LeRoi passed!
Can you imagine??![]()
From MediaBistro:
“In the CBS interview, Matthews talks about how the band nearly split up last year after the sudden death of co-founder and saxophonist LeRoi Moore. “He was a real difficult person. He was maybe my most difficult friend because he loved and hated with such a passion. But from the first time I heard him [play] it froze me…I wish I could’ve told him.”
Phew! Thank goodness they reconsidered…
unless that’s what they really want to do….![]()
Dave Matthews Band and the “GrooGrux King”
If you’re driving in New Jersey and you see a car with DMB stickers on it, along with my obligatory Grateful Dead bear which I have had one on every car I’ve ever owned, it is I! One of Dave Matthew’s biggest fans faithful since 1998-ish!
I could listen to them exclusively and never get bored! The live music always provides phenomenal improvs that make each song individual every time it’s done!
So, when I heard that a new studio album, “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King”, Dave Matthews Band’s long awaited studio album, will be released on June 2nd, I immediately took advantage of the pre-order sale and I cannot wait to dig in to it!!
If you’re not familiar, when you pre-order CD’s from the band, you usually get a package and this time I am receiving “Live Trax 15″! Just a few more to complete my collection!
E!Online has a poll to see which you, the consumer are more interested in buying, renting or whatever. Leo and Kate’s reunion movie, “Revolutionary Road” or “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King”. There’s no question as to how I voted! How ’bout you? Take the poll here.
About DMB’s album they say:
“Dave Matthews Band is back with their first studio album in over four years and from the sound out it, they’re still on top of their game. On a sad note, the title and cover art of the record is a tribute to DMB founding member and longtime saxophonist, LeRoi Moore, who unexpectedly lost his life in August 2008. The “GrooGrux King” reference in the title is a nickname the band gave to Moore, whose influence is said to be felt throughout the album.”
I am really glad that the guys did this. They could have gone in any direction but they chose to honor their fallen member who all of us miss so much! And I did not know that GrooGrux King was LeRoi’s nickname which makes this even cooler. At first the name sounded like something that came out of someone’s mouth after too many hits on the bartender, if ya know what I mean!
Amazon says about the album:
Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), Big Whiskey has been hailed by Rolling Stone as the group’s “heaviest album yet, both musically and emotionally,” which went on to note: “Throughout, Carter Beauford beats out elaborate, propulsive groves; bassist Stefan Lessard lays down Flea-style funk bass lines; violinist Boyd Tinsley plays cresting, intense runs; and Matthews mirrors Moore’s saxophone lines with scatlike singing.” Billboard, in a cover story on Dave Matthews Band, praised Big Whiskey as “its best album yet… Highlights include the funk-rock rave-up ‘Shake Me Like a Monkey,’ the stirring ballad ‘Lying in the Hands of God,’ the swampy rocker ‘Alligator Pie (Cockadile),’ radio-friendly fare like ‘Why I Am,’ which features playful horns over a solid rock riff and a hooky chorus, and ‘Funny the Way It Is,’ which parlays a subtle intro into a soaring, syncopated anthem.”
This should be pretty interesting. A different producer usually gets something different out of the band than the one before him and although I love “Stand Up”, their last studio album, it will be interesting to hear the new direction.
If you go to the Dave Matthews Band website, you can find many links to things such as an exclusive concert on HULU and videos, T-shirts and apparel and so much more! There’s a wonderful tribute video to LeRoi, loads of music to download and a full schedule of where you can catch the guys in concert, on TV, the net and radio!

As long as there’s music to calm the beast that lives within us all, we’re gonna be alright!

While We Accuse Bonnie Sweeten of Racism…
Please remember the Tawana Brawley case!
“According to Tawana, she was abducted by several white men shortly after she got off the bus; the men, one of whom wore a badge, took her to a wooded area and sexually abused her over a period of several days.
Interviewed at the hospital by a black officer from the Poughkeepsie Police Department, Tawana claimed she had been repeatedly raped by a group of white men but could provide no names or descriptions of her assailants.
She later told others that there had been no rape, only other kinds of sexual abuse. Forensic tests found no evidence that a sexual assault of any kind had occurred. Nor was there any evidence of exposure to elements, which would be expected in a victim held for several days in the woods at a time when the temperature dropped below freezing at night.”
White people are not the only ones who falsely accuse another race when making up a story!
That’s all I’m sayin’!
The other day I heard Whoopie talking about this on The View and I was surprised that no one mentioned that there are cases of the reverse of the Bonnie Sweeten and the Susan Smith cases! If they did, my apologies! The dogs bark really loudly when someone has the audacity to walk down the street! I heard a whole lot of talk about how we white folk need to stop blaming black folk…
Have you ever tried to be completely color-blind?
When asked to describe someone, what is one of the first 5 things asked? Color/Race!
When filling out forms, you are asked your race!
You get a new teacher, boss, coworker, friend, or are offended by or helped by someone, when you are describing the event or the person, their color comes up!
Of course racism is different.
Racism =
- The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
- Discrimination or prejudice based on race.
It seems to me that we’re either over-using and abusing the term OR we’re going to change the definition like we are changing so many other things to suit the needs of some!
I’m just sayin’…
It’s obvious that Bonnie Sweeten got in over her head, hid some stuff and broke down. Black is a common color of car and a common color of man! Get over it!

The Justice Dept. Pardons “Heavy-Handed Voting Intimidators” In Philadelphia!
Shocking! I know!

ElectionJournal.org CASE OVER: Members of New Black Panther Party carrying nightsticks stand outside a Philadelphia polling place.
You see, back on election day ‘08, New Black Panther Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz, Minister King Samir Shabazz and Jerry Jackson dressed in “military-style uniforms, black berets, combat boots, battle-dress pants, black jackets with military-style insignias” and were armed with “a dangerous weapon”and used racial slurs and insults to scare would-be voters and those there to assist them at the Philadelphia polling location”!
I live about a half-hour from Philly! This bothers me a lot for many reasons beyond the obvious faulted election!
A civil suit was filed on January 7th and an affidavit was obtained from Bartle Bull, a longtime civil rights activist and former aide to Sen. Robert F. Kennedy’s 1968 presidential campaign.
But mysteriously, the government did not enter the affidavit in the court case! Wow! What an oversight!!
According to the Washington Times article:
Mr. Bull said the “clear purpose” of what the Panthers were doing was to “intimidate voters with whom they did not agree.” He also said he overheard one of the men tell a white poll watcher: “You are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker.“
…
“Mr. Bull said in a sworn statement dated April 7 that he was serving in November as a credentialed poll watcher in Philadelphia when he saw the three uniformed Panthers confront and intimidate voters with a nightstick.”
…
He called their conduct an “outrageous affront to American democracy and the rights of voters to participate in an election without fear.” He said it was a “racially motivated effort to limit both poll watchers aiding voters, as well as voters with whom the men did not agree.”
Over a 5 month period, the three “New Black Panthers” refused to appear in court to answer the suit!
As recent as May 5th the issue was still on the table and then…10 days later the Justice Dept. dismissed the case!
According to the Washington Times:
“A Justice Department spokesman on Thursday confirmed that the agency had dropped the case, dismissing two of the men from the lawsuit with no penalty and winning an order against the third man that simply prohibits him from bringing a weapon to a polling place in future elections.”
According to Fox News:
“A spokesman for the Department of Justice told FOX News, “The Justice Department was successful in obtaining an injunction that prohibits the defendant who brandished a weapon outside a Philadelphia polling place from doing so again. Claims were dismissed against the other defendants based on a careful assessment of the facts and the law. The department is committed to the vigorous prosecution of those who intimidate, threaten or coerce anyone exercising his or her sacred right to vote.”
WTH?! Obama is going to make sure that all of his friends get exactly what they want for making sure that he got what he wanted! Where the hell is the outrage?!
Is it that we are so inundated with blunders and slaps in the faces that we cannot concentrate on only one issue long enough to get our heads together before they blow apart?
AND
Can any of us feel safe when we go out to vote?
AND
Between this and the Acorn scandal, can’t we have a fair re-vote?![]()

UPDATE: Remains Found In Ill. Are Male
Remains found in Illinois are not Stacy Peterson
Bummer. I was really hoping for some closure in the Peterson case. Only because I am more familiar with that case and people like Drew Peterson disgust me! He’s not a man! He is a very sad excuse for a human-being who feels that he is entitled to decide everyone’s fate to suit his needs. I’ve known people like him before. High on power! Charming in the outside world and an absolute dick behind closed doors!
The good news is that another family will find closure once the male is identified. If the term “silver lining” could ever be attached to such a horrible, haunting event such as losing a loved one mysteriously, it is that one high profile case brings attention, sometimes inadvertently to other missing person cases.

An Ode To Xanax
While leafing through my favorite reading spots on the world wide web this morning, I ran into a blog written by Suz Redfearn called “I Love Xanax” that not only struck me for its style, (well-written) and its candor, but for the perspective of adoption that I, myself had never considered. I’ll explain.
You see, Suz and I have the love of Xanax in common! Well, I can’t say that I love it but let’s just say that when my health issues create brain-worms (i.e. thoughts that my heart is giving out or messing up), a “chip off the old block” (a.k.a. mother’s little helper or a piece of a Xanax) really helps! And, like Suz I am very frugal with mine but for no other reason than they make me tired! I’m not a big fan of sleeping because there’s so much that I could be doing but….
Anyway…Suz Redfearn’s situation is much different than mine. She first started taking small doses when she was preparing for her wedding. And then, she and her husband adopted a baby!![]()
I found myself starting to need a pill while reading the article…just imagining adopting a baby! One day you don’t have one and then BAM! You do! It’s not like bringing home a puppy either! At least I had 9 months to prepare, which yes, when adopting you can prepare but there is no preparation for actual custody. While Christie was in my belly, I was in custody so it wasn’t that much of a shock when she came out! Yea…right!
I didn’t sleep and I fretted over this incredible gift of a baby girl until they pried me away to return to work and even then…OH! It’s just indescribable! But, to adopt a baby…just receive one must be mind-blowing!!
Suz Writes:
“Oh lord. After five years of unsuccessful attempts to have a baby, one suddenly landed in our lap. It was the most amazing gift the fates or the universe or whoever could have tossed us, and yet, the whole thing wigged me out. I was bursting with mirth, but felt completely disjointed, disoriented. We suddenly have a … a … baby? What? As a result, I couldn’t sleep a wink.”
I am 44…almost 45 years old and throughout my lifetime I have discussed the subject of adoption many times but I had always looked at it from the perspective of the mother giving a child away. I had never imagined the anxiety that must be felt on the receiving end until now!
Now I have a whole new respect for adoptive parents, in addition to the respect that I already held!
Thanks Suz! You not only let me know that I am not alone in the usage and not ‘abusage’ of Xanax by responsible, upstanding runner’s of the world women but you also gave me a new perspective! And you entertained me before I even had my coffee which is no small task! I loved your article, “I Love Xanax”!
<who doesn’t?>
Peace!
p.s. Christie is now almost 20. It gets worse before it gets better!![]()

You and I Paid Missouri’s Tax Refunds! (Yay!)
Well, those of us who pay taxes paid the citizens of Missouri!
And I didn’t even get a thank-you card! Did you?
Yes, as you go through the”shovel-ready” projects the mayors of Missouri submitted in the 2008 U.S. Conference of Mayors report on Stimulus Watch, you won’t see recovery from a backlog of $278 million in individual income tax refunds, but, that’s what they’re doing! Using our money to pay their bill!
Not only that! According to “OneNewsNow”:
The Missouri House has passed a bill that would provide what they are calling scholarships. Daniel McConchie of Americans United for Life (AUL) tells OneNewsNow how the money would be used.
“Maternity homes and pregnancy resource centers in the state — they can apply for grants,” he explains. “They are setting aside $2 million of the stimulus money to be able to promote these types of alternatives to abortion, especially for those women who find themselves in very desperate situations where they need help.”
WTH!! And, I’m sure it is just he beginning!
The tip of the iceberg!
I find myself wondering if the wording of the bill was rushed and filled with so much hog-wash that it didn’t include what would happen should the states take the money and run!
And will the band play on as we sink?
Oh well…live and learn! Right Obama?

Who Was Really Tortured?
Hey! Guess what? Torture sucks!!
Man Cow was recently water boarded in order to show just how bad water boarding is. WATCH HERE
But, has anyone even stopped to think what brought along the torture? Who was really tortured?
As we argue about who knew what when, are we forgetting the bigger picture? That we would not be in this position had it not been for September 11, 2001 when terrorists hijacked four airplanes and created the torture that ensued? (after several prior attacks of lesser magnitude)
Were the victims of 9/11 tortured?
Were the fire fighters, police and first responders tortured?
Was the city of Manhattan and the rest of the country/world tortured, wondering when the next shoe would drop and if it would do so while we were still running from crumbling, burning buildings?
Were the families, friends and loved ones of the people who were in those buildings tortured?
Are there still people today who are going through recovery/torture?
Are there people who are still tortured from the first attack on the World Trade Centers?
Yes, as many have forgotten the reason for the season, I haven’t.
And it seems that we care more about foreigners than our own?
Yes, war is ugly! What makes water boarding any worse than any other method of torture! People are okay with one type but not another?
And, even though we did not start this war, (go ahead and argue that fact, I like blue faces) we are obligated to defend ourselves even though some are so complacent that they do not realize that they are in danger or they do not care because they live in an area that may not be a target! (fools)
You know? I hear stories of the “old CIA” that got things done and nobody knew about it and bad shit never happened because the people who were protecting us weren’t under a magnifying glass! Have you ever worked under one? I can tell you that it’s hot and not a lot gets done! Now, I’m not saying that the rumored CIA agent who “stepped on Hitlers toe” and made him shoot himself did the right thing…or did he?
At times I feel like my peers are idiots! Screaming OMGosh about things that won’t matter if we continuously take the eye off the ball! The ball being fundamentalists who have wanted to kill and destroy us! (HELLO!)I despise any type of action toward another that causes pain of any kind but I also believe that God has created us with a great deal of will to survive and defend ourselves! Maybe that is why so many people incarnated here in America where you can make many choices that may or may not be good ones but you must also reap what you sow and unfortunately, we’re all connected…a union, huh?
It is just like a union, isn’t it? Pay dues so that people who are trouble-makers can be represented and keep their jobs while you, the good worker never sees anything but idiocy out of the union board!
The bottom line is that we must not forget what has happened…not just 9/11/01 but the many attacks on us! Consider the reason and the affect it has had on people on your own side while you are screaming OMGosh about what some guy that wants to kill us went through at Gitmo!
Choose Sides And Be Loyal!
