In Praise of Rep. Joe Wilson
Posted in News & PSA's tagged Barack Obama, health care, Rep. Joe Wilson at 2:59 am by Donna
During Obama’s speech about health care tonight (9/9/09),
Rep. Joe Wilson blurted out, “You lie!” when Obama stated that illegal immigrants will not be covered under the proposed Obama health care plan.
Although it was highly unprofessional and talk is out about punishing the poor guy simply because he has had enough of being lied to, I think he should be commended for letting his conscience be his guide instead of playing politics as usual!
If I were a resident of South Carolina, I’d be proud that at least someone who represents me in Wash DC speaks the truth and expects the truth! And, I hope that throughout the next few days that Joe Wilson gets support instead of punished.
Regardless, his mission is complete because if humans are anything, they are curious…or should be! Fact checkers will be looking deeper into Obama’s half-baked plan. <God, I hope so!>
Unless they are still phased by the smoke and mirrors, willing to give anything…everything to the man who says that he has the answers to fix all of our problems just by being him. Meanwhile, he has a background shadier than the New Jersey pine barrens! <or Sylvia Browne! ><zing!>
I thought that we were above falling for charlatans, but that is hard to do in a world that needs saving like it’s nobody’s business!

Strength

Just as a “for what it’s worth”…
Obama was correct on illegal immigration, according to the nonpartisan FactCheck.org.
GOP Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina has paid a steep political price for shouting “you lie!” during the portion of President Obama’s healthcare address in which Obama said the reform efforts would not include illegal immigrants.
But was Wilson accurate?
FactCheck.org says no. Actually, FactCheck’s analysis on this point came in response to a mass email making 30 claims about the House healthcare bill. The site concludes that 26 of those claims were false. Among them: “All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services.”
FactCheck’s response:
“That’s simply not what the bill says at all.”
As for the outburst by Wilson… I certainly believe in my or anyone’s right to disagree with the President of the United States, but to shout “You lie” during an address to Congress and the US was disrespectful to the office of the President of the United States. And saying that Democrats did it too as a defense of what Wilson did doesn’t make the Democrats any more right than it makes the Republicans. Disrespect is disrespect regardless of the party doing it. JMO.

I do believe that thanks to the outburst by Wilson, the House and Senate FOUND the loophole that would allow illegal immigrants to buy into the govt. health care policy by not having any enforcement policy in place to assure that participants were in fact US citizens and are working to fix it.
Obama should be happy that Wilson is getting all of the attention. Otherwise, the names and allegations he threw out in his speech at those who oppose him would have been front page news instead!
But, thank you for your thoughts on this Nancy. You are my friend and I respect your opinion. I don’t want to say or do anything to jeopardize it.
I’ve just done too much research on the guy and his pretty smiles and empty promises don’t sway me. I’m hard to win over…

And…
let’s throw all of the government who has grown into a complacent seat of corruption and vote in new individuals who are really in touch with this country and who will live by the same rules that they impose!
I think that the whole bunch needs to go which is why I promote the votesmart.org site. Knowledge is power!

hey lady…you’re MY friend too!
I changed my registration to Independent after the 2008 election because I have issues with BOTH major parties. And I supported and would have voted for McCain until he put Palin on the ticket with him.
I understand that you don’t support Obama. Many people don’t, but as one who voted for him, I do support him. I also realize that it takes more than him to change the way government operates and that there are a lot of problems. Until a year ago I had been a registered Republican for my entire voting life. (and at 61, that’s a lot of life.)
I learned very quickly (the political thread in GS) that it’s best to keep my political opinions to myself and probably should have done so here as well, but I wanted to point out that Wilson was incorrect – but more than his being incorrect, I felt he was totally disrespectful to the Office of the President of the United States. And had it been a Republican president and a democrat (or Independent) shouted “You Lie” at the President, I would have felt the same way about it.
Love ya!

You’re right. The fact that the same people booed Bush is to show a lack of racism, which is commonly misunderstood when someone disagrees with Obama.
I’m not racist. I’m against anyone who wants to change this country for the worse and divide it so that it cannot be put together again.
Look where he’s from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look what he’s studied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look who reared him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at his ideals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(((((((((scream)))))))))
I support anyone who wants to do right by this country.
Prove to me that he is one of them and I will support him. Actions speak louder than words and his actions are in direct opposition from his words.
But, anyway…religion and politics…I got in trouble for my opinions on Sylvia and Novus, and was leery of yours and Robs reactions (and only yours & Robs) to my thoughts on my blog, but we’ve grown beyond that.
Just look at the reason for it all…in God’s mind…it makes it easier to feel strongly about something but with a greater sense of “let it be”.
I have to do what my conscience tells me to do…
Always let your conscience be your guide!

p.s.
Bush was bad. Why would anyone settle for a novice like Obama to fix it?
McCain may have not been the answer but I do believe that the people he surrounded himself with would have been leaps and bounds better than Obama’s “people”.
((((ugh……can’t……go…….on………………))))
